You set your alarm for 6 A.M. so that you can wake up, make some breakfast, hit the gym, come back and get showered, and still make it into work on time.
The alarm rings, you snooze it. "I'll go after work" you think, and fall back into a blissful sleep.
The day goes by, there are some fires you have to put out at work, and by the time five o'clock rolls around, your gym bag is looking at you menacingly.
You skip it again.
Look, we get it. Finding time in the day to do something that causes discomfort isn't easy to shift to the top of the priority list.
But the most important part of physical fitness is consistency.
Chris Pratt said one of our favorite bits of advice when it comes to this aspect of wellness, "If you just cut the crap out of your diet, and if you spend an hour a day doing something physical that will make you sweat."
Simple Desk Exercises
Lucky for you, there are a few easy exercises you can start to do at your desk during the day that will help you work on the "consistency" bit, if you can't find a way to make it to the gym that day.
1. Jumping Jacks for 60 seconds
Sure, you'll look a little bit ridiculous, but it's a great way to increase your heart rate and take a break from sitting down.
2. 3 Sets of 10 Pushups
This simple exercise helps tone a lot of your upper body muscles, as well as your core.
3. 50 crunches
Attack your core with 50 crunches. Break them up into a few sets if you have to.
4. One minute of stretching
Get the blood flowing and lengthen your muscles with a solid stretch.
5. One minute plank
Firm up your core with a daily one minute plank.
There are many more of these that you can do at your desk, but this is a good place to start.
Just remember, above all, consistency is key.
